Ok, let me tell you the good, and the bad (About Rome / Italy)
The good: Weather there is better than here, lots of tourists, live action surroundings, good food (even though its expensive) and its easy to walk from place to place. If you like living in very old type places its a great place to visit.
*We went to Naples as well Via Euro Train and it wasn't as nice.
And it was raining that day. Same story.
All we did was eat Pizza / walk around the Train Terminal.
There are tons of Motorcyclists there, and shops all around, even a mini train / monorail thing in the middle of the road kinda like an expensive trolley from Philly where you just jump on and put a ticket into the machines while the drivers are not able to get up from their seats and check. People chase those things down as if their lives depended on it. Everything is small but most of the landmarks are pretty big. There are internet Cafe's there that are pretty cheap so you can internet there cuz there probably won't be any WiFi around.
The Bad: (There's quite a bit)
1.) There is not one public water fountain in the entire country, every bit of water must be bought, or filled up at home. (Not even at the airport which is pretty ridiculous, as its size is very small already and very expensive shops that are full of junk) When getting off & on (also to the terminal) you take this bus thing that takes you right to the airplane / terminal area from the stairs instead of walking directly to it. The Airport is a strange place, with tiny Planes and stuff, not like we're used to.
They also make you pay for water at restaurants where they try to get you to order food as quick as they can with their funny accents.
2.) Since a lot of tourists come, its not the cleanest place to be, not many public bathrooms are clean, or existent (They are hard to find at all) The better ones you have to pay a Euro to go in, cuz they keep it clean. By the end of the trip, your gonna use A LOT OF MONEY.
3.) The ground there is made of painful square rocks and is not flat.
4.) People try to sell you things in the bigger tourist attraction areas as in the fountains.
5.) The siren of the Ambulance goes off every few mins, and it tends to ring in my head.
Lastly, Italy (or at least Rome) is not what it's rumored to be.
And when you come back (If you are like me) You'll engage in a culture shock and forget everything when you come back as if it were brand new ish, and full of WTF / memories / reality, and stuff. Staring fresh. You'll see what I mean if you go.
Oh, and its an 8 hour flight 1 way and 10 the other way.
That is all I can remember. If you do go, I hope this helps :):)

I was just in Australia for the past 5 months. It's a 14 hour flight from LA to Sydney and 12 hours back. SO LONG. I loved every bit of Australia, though. Why'd you go to Italy? I've always wanted to go there but you make it sound not so good...
My dad had a conference up there, and he took my mom and I with him to see the places around the world as the annual summer vacation trip.
